A popular Saudi blogger has been charged with insulting Islam and been sentenced to ten years in prison and ten thousand lashes. The site itself is rather radicaly named “Saudi Arabian Liberals”. In fact he is running along the edge of the razor. The govt. has had him in their sights for a while. It will be interesting to follow this story and see if the the “House of Saud” can soften its view enough to reduce it’s harsh judgments.
What is most impressive about the situation is that this is the most dissent I have seen in the Muslim world. And it is originating from the very belly of the beast. How about the strangely silent American Muslims, and Muslims all over the world for that matter. Silence can only be interpreted as approval.

A gaggle of Rutgers University faculty has petitioned to drop Condoleezza Rice as their commencement speaker. Let us review things a moment. Mrs. Rice, apart from being a concert quality pianist since early childhood, served as the 1st African-American secretary of state, the second female in the position since Albright, the second in the position for blacks of any gender, professor at Stanford University, National security adviser to the president, and service on the National Security Council for the Soviets and eastern Europe. Just to mention a few achievements in a career studded with achievement. Yup! she is obviously not the person to heed as you start the quest for a career. ( that was humor. don’t take it seriously). I do not know what the individual achievements of the “faculty” might be. But as a group of professors I can tell you that most instructors are just kids who remain in school to avoid going out into the world and engaging in activities that actually require skills past the point of regurgitating information. The girl at the information booth at the mall shares that skill set.
Condi, however, showed insight and sensitivity in withdrawing from the engagement. This bloggist has had a rare opportunity to observe muslim life on a truly intimate level. My sister and all of her family are of the Muslim faith. I have lived with, and broken bread with Muslims for the past 34 years.
I have mentioned recently that the average muslim, regardless of their overt behavior, agrees that they “understand” the point of view of the terrorist. Even though all Muslims I have met have been law abiding citizens, to the last soul they tacitly consent to the actions of this “small number”.
I find that I have been quite the hawk in my attitude toward foreign policy. And I can encourage an aggressive stance in foreign relations because I know that it is not I that will find bullets flying overhead. But those good people in the U.S. will carry out the military actions to express the will of the United States while I sit surfing channels at the house. The relationship of the average Muslim to terrorism is similar. Although they say they would never do such things, they do nothing to discredit or defame those who do. And if pressed, they soften their views and parse their words carefully. About one billion Muslims on the planet, and not one Mullah speaks against the violence.
The crimes being perpetrated cannot be tolerated by men of conscience. To turn your head to wanton predation upon the innocent is to kill a part of yourself And it makes the coward a conspirator and gives permission for all men to turn away as well. The women of Islam are being held captive to the most sexually fucked up race of sadists, and killers in the whole of history.

It shocked me when I heard the words that Charlten Heston growled in the end seconds of Soylent Green, “Soylent Green is People!” For the times and technology, it was a passable science fiction yarn. The Phillipini fought the Japanese shoulder to shoulder with us during WWII. Now they riot to protest our fearless leaders visit to their country.
